Slakey was founded in 1939 by brothers Bill and Roger Slakey. Bill, Roger, and their young families scrounged everything they had together, amounting to about $5,000, to open Slakey Brothers in Sacramento, California, dedicated to providing the best service and value to their Customers in the heating and sheet metal supply business. Times were tough at first. In their first board of directors’ meeting, they had a significant conversation about whether or not they could afford a five-dollar office chair.

In 1950, Bill and Roger parted ways. Roger Slakey and his sons Bob and Noel continued to operate Slakey Brothers until the early 90’s when the Slakey family decided to sell the business to their employees. Slakey Brothers was purchased in 2018 by the Walters family, owners of a wholesale HVAC Distributor headquartered in Tacoma, Washington.
Slakey continues to a be a family-first business, focused on a family-first culture, service, and partnership with their Customers, Team Members, and vendors. Slakey provides the very best combination of products and knowledge and offers over 150 years of combined independent distributor experience.
Slakey has 400+ Team Members focused on superior service and partnerships while servicing Customers out of 22 Branches located in California, Nevada and Oregon. Team Members have a sense of pride and personal involvement in the Company’s success, and we believe it is one of the main reasons we have maintained such a stable workforce for decades; many of our Team Members have worked for Slakey for over 10, 20 and even 30 years.
